Greater Noida West Metro Moves Closer to Final Approval, Cabinet Nod Expected This Month

Greater Noida: The Greater Noida West Metro project is expected to receive Union Cabinet approval this month, marking a crucial step towards tendering and construction of the proposed 8.4-km elevated corridor between Noida Sector 51 and Greater Noida West Sector 4. The project is expected to benefit nearly five lakh residents in the area.

Noida CEO Krishna Karunesh said that all the required no-objection certificates (NOCs) for the project have been obtained. He said the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently with the Prime Minister's Office and expressed hope that the Union Cabinet will approve the project this month. Following the approval, a tender will be issued to appoint a developer for the corridor.

The proposed Greater Noida Metro Route will connect Noida Sector 51 with Greater Noida West Sector 4. The elevated corridor will have five stations and is estimated to cost nearly ₹2,000 crore. The project is expected to be completed within four years after construction begins.

According to the proposed alignment, the stations would be located in Noida Sectors 61, 70, 122 and 123, with the final terminal station at Greater Noida Sector 4 in the vicinity of Gaur Chowk. The corridor is meant to enhance the transport connectivity of people who rely almost entirely on road transport.

This proposed Greater Noida West Metro project has been in the works for some time now. The crucial clearance for the project was granted in July 2026 by the Public Investment Board (PIB). The PIB clearance put the project on track to reach the Union Cabinet, which needs to give the final go-ahead.

The present proposal is actually a new edition of an old metro plan. Earlier, an around 18-km-long corridor had been proposed from the Sector 61 station of Delhi Metro to Knowledge Park V in Greater Noida via Greater Noida West.

The original alignment was sanctioned by the Uttar Pradesh government in 2024. But the MoHUA held off on its approval till the time the alignment for the proposed 72 km-long Ghaziabad-Jewar rapid rail corridor passing through Greater Noida West gets finalized. Subsequently, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation made changes to the DPR, and thus came about the 8.4 km-long proposal.

The latest Greater Noida West Metro News is that after clearing the PIB stage, the project now awaits cabinet approval. Since all necessary NOCs have been issued and the DPR has been sent to the PMO, the cabinet's final verdict on the issue is the next important step.

Should the cabinet sanction the project this month, the process of tendering may be taken up. Based on the project details reported, the proposed corridor will then head towards construction with a projected construction time frame of four years from the time construction starts.
